Born in
Berlin to Indonesian parents, Iskandar Widjaja began playing the violin at the
age of four. At eleven, he was accepted as an extraordinary student at the
College of Music in Berlin and, furthermore, at the Julius Stern Institute
Berlin – the pre-college division for the highly musically gifted. After graduating
from secondary school, he studied the violin at the University of the Arts in
Berlin, which he completed in 2010.
His
Debut CD Bach ‘n’ Blues (2011) and his second album Precious Refuge -
Works by J.S. Bach (recorded with the Berliner Camerata in 2014), were released
to great critical acclaim by press and broadcast. Additionally, Iskandar
Widjaja plays Tango with his Trio CAYAO. Their debut album reached
the Classical Bestseller Charts in 2014 after a TV appearance on arte with
Startenor Rolando Villazón.
As a
soloist Iskandar Widjaja is touring the world together
with renowned orchestras like the Sydney Symphony Orchestra or L´Orchestre de
la Suisse Romande. In 2014 he gave his debut with the Münchner Philharmoniker
under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach. Also under the baton of Maestro
Eschenbach he debuted in the Philharmonie Berlin in May 2016, together with the
Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
Furthermore,
Iskandar Widjaja has been the face for Indonesia´s high end coffee brand JJ
Royal as both brand ambassador and TV commercial model. He has been on the
cover of various indonesian and international fashion-,
TV- and lifestyle magazines. Recent collaborations with brands like the
Volkswagen Group and Tommy Hilfiger mark him as a true modern classical
violinist.
