Alastair King studied music at Birmingham university and at the University of Kansas, where he graduated with masters degrees in composition and conducting. King’s extraordinary musical qualities as being both conductor and orchestrator were soon discovered by composers like Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell, and Steve Jablonsky.

Subsequently, he started working on a multitude of British and Hollywood movies. By now, his film credits as conductor, orchestrator and composer include Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Chronicles of Narnia, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Made of Honor, Kingdom of Heaven, Grown Ups, The Island, Bedtime Stories, Over the Hedge, Beneath the Darkness, Jack and Jill and Shrek, amongst many others.

Furthermore, Alastair King is Principal Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra Of London and appeared as guest conductor of many other orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, London Session Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He has also collaborated with a number of people from the field of pop and rock including Jarvis Cocker, Ben Folds, Moya Brennan (Clannad), and Alan Clark & Guy Fletcher of Dire Straits. As a concert composer Alastair King has had international success with symphonic works as well as chamber music. His work, Hit the Ground was recorded by the BBC Philharmonic and broadcast worldwide as well as released on CD. The London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Harding, performed the work at the Barbican Centre to a live radio audience in over 30 different countries.
