1 About Batman2 About Max Steiner(1:37min)\"How do we get to Danny\'s house?\" we ask ourselves, as the car\'s navigation device leads us to a huge fence, which doesn\'t seem to have any end. Finally, we are approaching at a gate. After a security check, we are allowed to pass the gate and enter one of the most luxurious gated communities of Los Angeles. There are no name plates - but after asking around we are quite sure that we arrived at Danny\'s house: we find a doormat with a huge E on it in front of a mysterious looking house that resembled a castle. Danny\'s and Bridget Fonda´s children are playing on the lawn.Eventually, we meet Danny Elfman, who first guides us through his house. It becomes quickly evident, where Elfman finds his musical inspiration for films like BATMAN, SPIDERMAN, CHARLY AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and more: at home.Danny´s most favourite room is a a gigantic, bizarre looking former ballroom from the 20ies. There he would sit on cushions, next to him several different percussion instruments, looking at a wide screen at the end of the hall. So, this is, where the early beautiful Elfman-scores originate, which Danny later works on in his studio and adds his typical tone color. Now, we walk with Danny to his studio, which - again - looks quite bizarre with its decorations. Infront of the film camera, he tells us about his approach to film music, his biggest hero - the Viennese Max Steiner - and his collaboration with Tim Burton. We get to know a rather quiet and reserved person, who fascinates us with his straighforwardness and modesty.Of course, we couldn´t resist aksing: \"Danny, how did your famous THE SIMPSONS theme come into your mind?\"\"Oh, very spontaneously. The producer told me, what he would need, I got into the car and on my way home the melody came into my mind..I actually never thought that they would use ist..\", Danny sais and laughs. |
